Roland John Gilbert began his journey to greatness forty-four years ago when he entered the abyss of violence, crime, and self-destruction. He was only thirteen years old and no one could see his potential-not even him. Ignorance of his true identity, what he really wanted, and why he was alive, fertilized his buried feelings of unworthiness and bitterness.
Roland overcame his negative behaviors and earned a BA in social science from the University of California, Irvine. He was a straight-A student in economics. He continued at Irvine, obtained a MS in administration, and was a straight-A student in operations research. Roland’s
journey took him to Washington, D.C. as a Presidential
Management Intern. He traveled on to honors and
financial rewards as a business consultant and recognition in Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry in America. However, Mr. Gilbert had not yet heard God’s call that would return him to the abyss to face his hidden demons.

Mr. Gilbert heard God’s call, and on September 1, 1988, he founded the nationally acclaimed Simba youth development program. His previous book: The Ghetto Solution. Waco, Texas: WRS Publishing, 1994, shows his efforts to help the inner-city community and documents his success with the most challenged youth and parents:

Simba was Roland’s initiation and transformation. He retired from Simba March 2, 2001. He uncovered his demons, conquered his dragon, and now returns to give what he received from the battle and the victory:
“God gave me a message for people,” Mr. Gilbert says. “God told me: ‘Parenting is everyone’s responsibility. Parenting is a sacred responsibility, because parenting is the only way individuals can achieve full potential as human beings. And, who you teach your child to be is more important than what you teach your child to do.’”
